Job purpose
To provide high quality dental care to all patients and to maintain clinical leadership in order to expand a program of primary and preventive dental care in a community health center setting.
Duties and responsibilities
The Administrative Lead Dentist provides clinical care to patients of all ages and works with colleagues within and external to the department to make sure that administrative and operational protocols and procedures are up-to-date and implemented, measured and improved efficiently.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Designs, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures, which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards. Oversees the School Based Dental Program and its staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, coordinated care, program effectiveness, and compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.
- Collaborates in a matrixed model with Operations to support the daily workflow of dental front desk staff; provide input and guidance on performance and service delivery, recognizing that these staff ultimately report directly to Operations.
- Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines; records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record; and complete referrals and data collections
- Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention and assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.
- Develops and executes best practices for recruitment and retention measures of dental staff, both professional and ancillary and performs periodic evaluations of all Dental department professional providers as directed by the policy of the corporation.
- Tracks utilization, operational and performance metrics and works to improve these as appropriate.
- Chair of the Engage Fair Haven Committee for the department and responsible for patient satisfaction metrics and improving these if/when appropriate.
- Responsible for personal, as well as, departmental full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care including those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.
QualificationsGraduation from an accredited dental school and a minimum of three years of clinical experience required, five years of experience preferred. Completion of an accredited general practice residency program is highly preferred. Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Connecticut; current CPR (BLS) certifications (ACLS preferred); Connecticut DEA registration and Controlled Substance License and Medicaid provider numbers are required. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills also required.
The selected candidate will have experience with providing child oral health for appropriate patients.
Knowledge of public health principles and practices; administrative, management, PI, and budget development experience; EDR (Wisdom) experience; and fluency in English and Spanish are preferred
